“There is a need to talk about eating ethics in an all video conferencing world.
Is ice cream eating ok? ”
This is a proxy performance piece made under the influence of a global pandemic 2020.
One of my friends sits most of the days looking at close-up video streams faces of his colleuges. To disarm people a little, he chose to eat ice cream. A lot of ice-cream.
But what is real in a virtual world and what is not?
The ice cream eating had to be escalated in absurdum and for my friend not to build even more pandemic belly fat, I made him virtual ice cream ideal to eat over and over again in the virtual world of video meetings.
By switching ice creams outside the camera view an eating could then be mimicked. This kept on and it actually spread the ice cream eating (for real) to other people in certain teams.
With a lightweight type of airdried clay and a lot of used sticks from ice creams, a reasonable believable ice cream kit could be made. The clay itself look like “vanilla” ice cream when it dried.
By making different sized ice creams, putting them in a plastic bag to make it possible to bite off a section, thus creating the realistic ending, it could then just be painted in different colors for different “flavour” coatings.
The “lollies” are a bit scratched now after long time use. No one ever challenged the ice creams throughout the eating session. As it was secondary to the conversation helped pf course.
